All of us at Kinky-Curly want you to truly love your hair.

We want to put an end to the frustration that so many of us experience and help you achieve the healthiest hair possible. Our styling products combined with the following tips will assist you in creating fabulous style and maintaining healthy hair.

USE THESE 3 PRODUCTS TOGETHER AS A SYSTEM TO GET THE BEST RESULTS

1: COME CLEAN SHAMPOO

It is very important to REMOVE old product BUILDUP from your hair and start with a CLEAN SLATE. Oils, butters, grease, wax and silicone coat the hair shaft and must be COMPLETELY WASHED OUT. Residue and/or product buildup may cause white film or flakes.

2: KNOT TODAY LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER

Apply a generous amount and comb through your hair with a WIDE TOOTH COMB while it is soaking wet with conditioner. On tight curls DO NOT RINSE OUT. On loose curls rinse and leave a little on the ends.

3: ORIGINAL CURLING CUSTARD

On tight curls divide hair into small sections and apply to soaking wet hair. SMOOTH each section with fingers from the root to the ends of the hair. If a section starts to dry RE-WET with water from a spray bottle. On loose curls hair can be damp and you can scrunch into bigger sections of hair.

HOW MUCH PRODUCT SHOULD I USE?

The amount of product used will vary from one customer to the next. The amount you need will depend on the final look you wish to achieve and the length and thickness of your hair. Thicker tighter curls need more product and loose wavy curls can get away with using much less. Use more product for very controlled curls and use less product if you want more fullness and body. Also the more product you apply the longer your style will last.

MY HAIR FEELS CRUNCHY WHEN IT IS DRY?

The product can dry with a firm hold if over applied. You can apply less product the next time or use the Gloss Pomade to un-scrunch the crunch.

SOME PARTS OF MY HAIR ARE FRIZZY AND SOME AREAS ARE NICE AND CURLY?

Sounds like you did not apply the product evenly to each section. On thick tight curls you can never slap the Curling Custard on the top of your head and expect good results. It will not penetrate to the inner layers to define the curls. On your next try make sure you divide your hair into small sections and apply to each section starting at the root and smooth it all the way down the length of the hair to the ends.

WHEN MY HAIR IS DRY I END UP WITH A WHITE FILM / WHITE CHUNKS IN MY HAIR?

Another product you are currently using or have used in the past is not mixing well with the Curling Custard. You must shampoo your hair to remove the buildup.

I USED YOUR COME CLEAN SHAMPOO AND I STILL HAVE WHITE STUFF IN MY HAIR?

Come Clean Shampoo will remove mild to moderate buildup. If you have used a heavy duty silicone product or a product with an ingredient like beeswax or lanolin we suggest you mix a pinch of baking soda with the Come Clean shampoo in the palm of your hand and use this to wash your hair. This will clean your hair without using a harsh clarifying shampoo.

MY HAIR FEELS STICKY?

Your hair was not wet enough to allow the product to be diluted and distributed evenly enough. Try again and make sure hair is completely wet when applying the Curling Custard. Keep a spray bottle with water close by to re-wet sections if they start to dry.

THE ENDS OF MY HAIR ARE STILL STRAIGHT?

You may have heat damage from a flat iron or curling iron. Our products will not make your hair curl up if it has been damaged by heat. You can twist and twirl sections around your fingers to create a curl or you may cut off the damaged straight ends.

CAN I DO A CONDITIONER WASH?

A conditioner wash when first using our products may not be enough to remove styling product buildup. We recommend the Come Clean Shampoo instead.

CAN I USE MY OLD FAITHFUL TRIED AND TRUE SHAMPOO / CONDITIONER WITH THE CURLING CUSTARD?

We recommend using COME CLEAN + KNOT TODAY + CURLING CUSTARD since they are designed to work together as a system especially on your first use. An ingredient in your "tried and true" shampoo or "old faithful" conditioner may not mix well with the Curling Custard and it can cause you to get less than stellar results. We understand customers like to mix and match products from different brands but you should use Kinky-Curly products together in order to truly see the results of what our products can do on your hair.

MY LAST RELAXER WAS 3 WEEKS AGO. I AM READY TO GO NATURAL SO I USED YOUR PRODUCTS AND THEY DID NOT WORK FOR ME?

Kinky-Curly will not make relaxed or naturally straight hair curl up. You should have at least 8 weeks of new growth in order to see your true texture.

Are you ready to go natural?

Not ready to do the ‘BIG CHOP’ and cut off all of your relaxed hair just yet?

Here are some tips to help you make the transition from relaxed hair to a full head of beautiful, healthy, natural hair without cutting it all off right away!

Remember, you cannot wash a relaxer out. The structure of your hair has been chemically altered and no amount of shampoo or vinegar can remove a relaxer from your hair. You must either grow it out or cut it off.

The line of demarcation is the area where your new growth meets your relaxed hair, which is very weak and prone to breakage. It is important to keep your hair moisturized and detangled in order to avoid breakage. Always use a wide-tooth comb and good detangling conditioner such as KNOT TODAY TM.

Do not use heated styling tools during your transition. A blow dryer with a comb attachment can stretch and break the hair. A flat iron or pressing comb used regularly or even just once at too high a temperature can burn the cuticle layer and damage the natural hair that is growing in. High temperatures from heated styling tools can break the sulfide bonds of our hair which can cause your hair to straighten out resulting in many different textures on your head.

Opt for styles that will blend the two different textures of hair such as roller sets, straw sets or two-strand twist sets. Use of a good styling serum such as SPIRAL SPRITZ TM will ensure a longer lasting frizz free style. Other style such as braids, flat twists or individual twists also work well to protect the hair and blend the two textures

Trim hair regularly during the transition phase as your natural hair grows in cutting off a bit of relaxed ends each time.

Heal your scalp to prevent 'scab hair'. After years of applying chemical relaxers to our scalp our follicles may become damaged. The shape of the follicle determines the texture of our hair and as new hair grows in through a damaged follicle the result can be dry, rough hair also known as scab hair. A healing scalp tonic enriched with aloe vera can prevent or minimize this.

When your hair has reached a length that you are comfortable with you can now cut off the remainder of the relaxed hair.

You can now enjoy the versatility of having natural hair. Some of the styles you used to transition with can still be used now that you are 100% natural. You can roller set on large rollers for a straight/wavy look or twist or braid set for a crinkly look. And best of all you can now sport a wash and go look using CURLING CUSTARD TM Apply to wet hair out of the shower, air dry or use a diffuser and go.

ENJOY YOUR NATURAL HAIR!
